This workshop is based on a curriculum that provides insight into the biological basis of mental illness, illustrating that mental illness is fundamentally similar to other types of illness and disease. It also shows how scientific evidence and research can help us understand the causes of mental illness and can lead to treatment and cures.

The Rx for Science Literacy workshop series provides K-12 educators a unique opportunity to tour research facilities, hear from scientists about their latest research advances and take a home a free curriculum and other bioscience education materials.

Incentives for attending an Rx for Science Literacy workshop include:

• 1 unit of certification renewal credit for North Carolina-certified educators (4 hours of additional work required)
• Free supplemental curriculum and other bioscience education materials to use in the classroom

• Substitute teacher support (up to $70)
